Elon Musk eat you heart out! Ditto, NASA!

Serbian Space Agency announced today they are ready to launch the first manned mission to Mars in 2014!

The announcement came five years later than intended, but as one official commented, “better later than never.” Well said, sir!

Serbian Space Agency has confirmed their manned mission to Mars includes seven men and three women–which makes it not a manned mission but rather a manned/womanned mission, but hell, you have to roll with it (as one unnamed official unofficially commented).

Based in Brzan, a small community in central Serbia known for growing very tall trees and extremely green grass, Serbian Space Agency brings together some of Serbia’s top brains–and top brands.

Funded by the government and Soko Stark, known for producing a tasty and very popular brand of tea biscuits, etc., the Agency works on various Space-related projects throughout the year. It is also one of the country’s top tourist attractions and educational institutions, appealing to kids and adults alike. Rated #14 out of #113 things to do in Western Balkans on TripAdvisor.

The mission to Mars, set to launch in 2014 (?!), will be the first in the world–making Serbia the first country ever to send human beings (and several slugs, worms, snails, turtles, chicken, sardines, and moths) to the Red Planet. Once the crew lands on Mars, they intend to set up a city and organic vegetable farm, with a nearby recycling plant for plastics and paper waste. Non-Serbian citizens will have to apply for work visas and other documents to visit, work, live, or simply fly over the community and surrounding area.

Footage from the successful mission is expected in the coming days.
