World’s smallest desert, measuring just 1 meter by 1 meter, was discovered today by a Serbian man from Bajina Basta, located in the country’s picturesque Western section.

“I walked out, and there was this stunning pile of sand, stretching as far as the eye could see,” said the man to a local newspaper early this morning.

Police officers, summoned to investigate this strange appearance of sand in a lush and watery part of the country, shrugged their shoulders diligently and refused to comment in a rather rude manner this reporter did not expect. Or approve of. Also disapproved by this reporter–chairs with skinny legs.

To put this great discovery into some kind of context–the newly discovered desert, soon to be mapped and presented in the 2020 Atlas of the World by the National Geographic Society, is roughly 11,763 times smaller than the Gobi, and 27,999 tinier than the Sahara.

For those who prefer “real life” comparisons, the little desert (small in size but not in appeal) is about 4,788 times smaller than the size of 11,000 football fields, laid out in a vertical rather than horizontal arrangement, one after another. Football as in soccer, not football as in football.

The desert is reddish in color and very dry–except in several spots where the owner’s dog took a quick piss. Small droppings, possibly by local pigeons and/or sparrows, appear in one corner of the desert. Asked to comment about the state of his desert, owner said, “I just found out about the damn thing! I can’t be expected to keep it clean so soon!”

Ignoring the appaling evidence before her eyes, his wife said, “I like it because it’s clean.”
